Why use your top of the line 4k camera when you can shoot a 40 year old, untested Super 8 film camera, haul film reels across borders and x-ray machines, and make so much noise when shooting that every tourist around you turns in dismay? Because it is an unique analog experience in a digital world.
Shot in Venice this past February, on a Kodak stock using an old but working just fine Canon 514XL Super 8 film camera, developed in California and scanned at 4K in Spain (long story), I was surprised by what a four decades old camera can produce. Can my iPhone shoot a cleaner video - yep you bet, but it does not have the same 'super 8 film’ look I was going for - the grain, the shaky picture, the colors. Enoy Venice on Super 8!
